THE FIRST PAGES
presented by Female Eye Honorary Mavericks, Elizabeth Kaiden & Nitza Wilon, co-founders of The Writers Lab for women and non binary screenwriters, age 40+.
You've heard that when you submit to a contest, you'd better have nailed your opening pages. Well, it’s true because… to truly nail those first pages, you must have nailed the rest of your story. Join Elizabeth & Nitza, co-founders of The Writers Lab, to walk through what the opening pages say to a reader about the writer, the story, and where it will go. They’ll delve into micro- craft issues as well as macro- story issues and show you how it all weaves together to make a script pop.
Supported by Ontario Creates
Celebrating its 10th year anniversary, The Writers Lab is dedicated to developing narrative scripted content by diverse women and non binary screenwriters over the age of 40. With industry veterans, the Lab elevates the work of women screenwriters in their prime, through mentorship, advocacy and exposure. Alumni have been hired in writers’ rooms, signed with managers and agents, landed deals and moved their scripts into production. In addition to the flagship US Lab, TWL now produces select virtual labs, as well as online programming globally. Supported by Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman, The Writers Lab was founded in partnership with New York Women in Film & Television and in collaboration with the Writer Guild of America East to bring a greater range of stories and perspectives to audiences that can lead to broader change.
Elizabeth Kaiden
Elizabeth Kaiden is The Writers Lab contest and organization operations manager. She served as Head of Development at Tangerine Entertainment, mentored for Stowe Story Labs, was a prolific theater and film critic, and is a graduate of Princeton and the Yale School of Drama.
